The FEKM Chief Instructor is Richard DOUIEB, and he created the organisation in 1997. He is one the pioneer of Krav Maga in Europe and opened one of the first school of Krav Maga on the continent. Richard is the official representative of Imi Lichtenfeld in Europe, and the European Federation of Krav Maga now includes more than 20000 members in more than a dozen of countries: Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, USA ... and now Bulgaria, however 80% of the practitioners are located in France.
Richard DOUIEB has taught Krav Maga in France and Europe since 1987 and was officially delegated by Imi Lichtenfeld, the founder. Born in Jerusalem in 1956, he lived in France until the age of 16 and then returned to Israel where he began to learn the martial arts.
At age of 17, while in the military, he started training in Krav Maga under the top military instructor Imi Lichtenfeld. At the age of 23, Richard returned to France and began training in other various disciplines such as Atemi-ju-jitsu, Thai Boxing, and American Boxing, where he won a national championship in France in 1983.
Like Imi, Richard is an athlete and won national title in combat sport.
Finally Richard decided to devote himself to Krav Maga after getting his instructor qualification in Israel. He opened the first school of Krav-Maga in 1987.
In 1980 Richard recieved his black belt, the same year of Haim Gidon (actual president of IKMA – Israeli Krav Maga Assoication) and one year after Eyal Yanilov (head instructor of KMG - Krav Maga Global). He achieved his 5th Dan in 1995.
In Krav Maga the program continue until the 5th black belt. All grades above that are usually used as honorific regarding the contribution of the master to the discipline. Nowadays the highly ranked masters hold the 10th Dan.
Richard is the author of several DVD movies (the curriculum of FEKM DVD) and reference books on Krav Maga translated in couple of others languages.
He is currently teaching in Paris and conducting seminars all over Europe. His school is the one that creates the most black belt fighters in Europe. Richard is world-renowned and respected by his students for his tremendous fighting skills, education and humanity.
FEKM stands for Federation Europeene de Krav Maga (European Federation of Krav Maga), it has been founded by Richard DOUIEB in 1997. Imi Lichtenfeld authorizes him to develop Krav Maga in Europe. Richard opened one of the first Krav Maga schools in Paris and nowadays this is the main Federation in France and the biggest in term of membership in the world. FEKM is very active in France, Belgium, Poland, UK, Portugal and many other countries most of them are western country. KRAV MAGA SOFIA is the only and first club in the Balkans region to be affiliated to the Federation.
The Krav Maga performed in the FEKM is quite close to the authentic Krav Maga like it has been transmitted from Imi and his direct students to Richard. Of course some new techniques can replace obsolete ones, it is a living system and it is not rare that some techniques are abanbonned. The curriculum of FEKM depends from Belt level. The time for getting a black belt is at least 6 years, 1 year is required between each belt: White (total beginner) - Yellow - Orange - Green - Blue - Brown and Black. Then, the Dargas differentiate the different degrees in the Black Belt system, up to the 5th Darga.
